Jacqueline and Daniel

How We Met:  Dan and I met on New Years Eve 2009. I had just moved, and was not going to go out. My best friend (and Maid of Honor) Jamie, told me to put on a dress and get my butt out! I reluctantly put on a navy blue satin dress, and forced my brother, Ricky, to come out too.

We decided to meet at Egan’s in Montclair, NJ, where I had just started a part-time bartending job.  Jamie’s sister, Kelly, had a friend who had just moved to Montclair… DAN!  She called him and asked if he wanted to go out with her and her sister. Oddly enough, he didn’t have anything planned, and was new to the area, so decided to go.

So Jamie and Kelly were meeting at Egans. I was with Jamie, and Dan was with Kelly. As soon as I saw him… I just knew!  Love at first sight always seemed so “dramatic” and silly to me… until it happened!  We started talking and were inseprable all night. With a little too much champagne, I kissed him at midnight… That was my last “first kiss”.

He is the only person I want to kiss for the rest of my life. I can’t imagine not having him by my side every day.  Thank God I went out!

how they asked: A few days before my birthday in July, Dan took me to the Lambertville Inn, which is where we had our first over night together.

We got to the hotel early and could not check in. We had taken our bikes with us so we decided to do a 20 mile bike ride along the Delaware River (“Jacque likes to do triathlons and bike crazy distances, she’s lucky I love her” – Dan). Half way through our ride we crossed in to PA to follow the Delaware River back to the hotel. The last five miles, the skies opened up and it started pouring!! We looked like we jumped into the Delaware a dozen times with all our clothes on (you know when you’re wearing jeans and they hold on to all the water and it adds 20 pounds… like that!).

Thankfully, we found this cute little bridge on the dirt path and hid out under there for a few minutes. It was like we were on our own little island, on this strip of land between the Delaware River and a small canal. In our typical style, we took out the iPod, listened to some music and danced, under the bridge… in the rain. Dan played our song, a country song called, “Then”, flashed me his amazing, irresistable smile. He told me that he loved me…and as always… I got goosebumps.

Finally getting back to the hotel, the staff members felt awful (but not as bad as we felt leaving a massive puddle in their lobby!)! We didn’t care though, it was only water! We just laughed and thought it was fun and memorable. We got to our room – room 306 – cleaned up and went out for an amazing dinner at the Logan Inn in New Hope, PA.  After that, we went to have an after dinner drink at the Station Restaurant, right on the canal.  I really think Dan was trying to get me drunk  (“she’s Irish, she could handle it!” -Dan)…

Dan said, why don’t we go back to the hotel and get a bottle of wine? It was almost my birthday so I was game! Once we got back to the room, he put on some music and asked me to dance (which is not uncommon, we do this all the time). Somehow we got to talking and I mentioned to him that, the day was PERFECT!  Then I told him that I thought maybe… he was going propose tonight… He was like, “really??? you though that???”…

I went to go grab two glasses for our wine and as I turned back around, he was on his knee… Somehow, our song was on again! The one we listen to almost everyday – the one we were listening to in the rain under the bridge. I was actually shocked?!?!!!! (“she totally blew up my spot!” -Dan).

Dan said, “You know me better than anyone else… I love you more than I ever knew it was possible, you are my best friend and I love you so much. I want to spend every day, for the rest of my life with you… Will you please, Marry Me?”….

At this point I was crying and kneeling with him on the ground, the moment seemed like unreal! He kept saying, “Honey, please stand up.” I said, “I can’t I’m shaking to much! The he said, “Well will you at least answer me???”

I of course… kneeling and crying on the ground… said YES…Later we talked about the day, and Dan told me that he had bought the ring in April, (3 months earlier!!!) and had been keeping it in his sock drawer!!! (Good thing I’m not a snoop – but it does explain why he always did his own laundry!).

About the engagement session:

As you can probably tell, Dan and I love being outside (despite the fact that it was 19 degrees during our session!). The day we got engaged, we biked 20 miles along the Delaware River in the PORING RAIN, and it was perfect.  We love hiking, biking and just spending time with each other, so we knew we wanted a low key, just us, engagement session – a very natural and organic session. We took pictures on December 29th, with our photographer, Vanessa Joy (based out of Freehold, NJ), at Laurita Winery (New Egypt,, NJ), .

We skipped through the vineyard, rolled in the hay, climbed through some weeds and tall grass, and mounted a pick up truck with old wine barrels.  We took some wonderful pictures in a barn and got some dirt on our knees. We stood on pieces of steel in between old silos, and ran around the front yard of an old inn.  We are carefree and LOVE to laugh.  The beauty in the natural surroundings, paired with our love for each other and our fun sense of humor made this a wonderful E-Session.
