How We Met
They claim, “When you know you know.” A saying we disliked until we met each other. A casual apartment event in 2019 changed our lives forever. We were both living in the same apartment building, which luckily held social hours for their tenants! We casually met at the event joking that we should meet up again later. Luckily our friends in town bugged us to follow through on that promise and we closed out the night with deserts together.
After Jackie dogged some of my advances she finally gave in to going on a date with me and the rest is history!
After dating in Charleston over the summer, Jake accepted a job in New York City. We moved in together in October of 2019. It’s been a whirlwind since then!
How They Asked
I (Jake) decided to pull off a massive surprise proposal complete with both of our families. At the time we had moved to NYC for a job, but I knew that Jackie’s heart was still in Charleston. I planned a “getaway” weekend to South Carolina to pop the question.
I had our families and best friends fly in from various places and rent a house on Isle of Palms. Together our moms set up a blanket and champagne on the beach, while we started walking further down the beach. As we came across the blanket I ushered Jackie up to see what was there and when she started to realize what was happening I got down on one knee.
Little did she know her sister was hiding in the bushes taking photos, and our families were waiting for us with a party one house down!
After her sister popped out and took a few photos, we moved to a deck and our family and friends snuck up behind us to surprise Jackie. After all the surprises we partied into the night with the people most special to us.
It was perfect.
