How We Met

Let’s take it back to 2012. It was my first week of college in Boston, MA; I was ready for a new adventure, to meet new friends and to live in a new country. September 7 2012: I was invited to a pre-game on the first weekend and when I arrived, I saw Marcos for the first time. I was a freshman and he was a junior. He came to say hello and we hung out that night with all of our friends at a nightclub (Venu). The following day, September 8 2012, we saw each other again at another party and we started flirting (Splash). He mentioned that he wanted to take me out on a date and I said yes. The next day we saw each other again at another party and we exchanged numbers.

The following week he picked me up at my dorm and we went out to dinner at Red Lantern. I was so nervous, but those were good nerves. It was the first time I was going out with a complete stranger. We didn’t know anything about each other and this felt extremely refreshing to me (I come from a very small country + society in which everyone knows everything about everybody). Getting to know him was extremely fun. A month later, on October 6th 2012, he asked me to be his girlfriend and the rest is history.

how they asked

December 26 2017 was the best day of my life so far.

Marcos was supposed to arrive in Panama on December 27. We had plans of spending New Years together. I got home after a long day of work and went straight to my room where he was hidden waiting to surprise me. He comes out of hiding and I couldn’t stop smiling. He asked me to shower and change because he had a dinner planned for us.

We went to Cabana for dinner. We sat down at a table on the terrace with a gorgeous view of the city; we had dinner, drank some wine and at the end we exchanged Christmas gifts. I opened his gift and it was a puzzle. He asked me to make the puzzle, right then and there, with him. Yes, in the restaurant. I decided to simply do it.

When we were almost done with the puzzle, I noticed that some puzzle pieces were missing (especially a piece that had a part of my head). I started asking him to look in the box to make sure no pieces had stayed there or fallen down to the ground. He kept telling me to finish the puzzle. While he was “looking in the box”, I was finishing it.

Suddenly, IT HAPPENED. I look at him and there he was, down on one knee. holding the last puzzle piece that had the most special words: “Marry Me?”. I started shaking, crying and freaking out. I could not believe that it was finally happening. He then took out the ring and photographers appeared out of nowhere.

After a million photos, he covered my eyes and took me to the third and last surprise of the day. We drove to El Bristol, a hotel in Panama. When we got there he uncovered my eyes and I could not believe what I was seeing. My entire family, all of our friends and in laws, they were all there to celebrate with us. We had an amazing engagement party in which our families came together and a new chapter in our lives started.

2018 is still a mystery. We don’t know what the future holds for us, but all we know is that wherever we go, what matters the most is that we are together and in love.
