How We Met
I was 14 and living in Canberra. In 2013 my mum and I arranged a trip to Europe and as part of our holiday, we booked a cruise. However, two weeks before we left for the trip, we were informed that the cruise was canceled and we had to book a different ship at the last minute.
A few weeks later we boarded the new cruise ship in Rome and on the first day of the cruise I met JC, who was 16 at the time and living in Sydney. JC was also traveling around Europe with his parents and we happened to be the only two Australian (teens) on board. The cruise lasted for two weeks and during this time we became very close friends.
After the cruise, we went back to our respective states and stayed in contact via Facebook. Two years later on my sixteenth birthday, JC sent me flowers and chocolates. And just over two months later, on the 9th January 2015, we started dating. JC and I did 2 years of long-distance while I finished high school and in 2017 we moved in together and now live in Sydney.
How They Asked
JC and I went to the Sofitel in Darling Harbour for the weekend to celebrate his 24th birthday. On Saturday, we had organized to go to a rooftop bar for some drinks before dinner. While we were at the bar I wanted to leave early and rest in the hotel room before dinner but JC wanted to stay longer so he kept ordering drinks, going to the toilet, asking for photos, and even resorted to stopping for a hot chocolate to keep me from going back to the hotel room.
Finally, when JC was ready we walked back to the room so I could freshen up before dinner. When I walked into the hotel room there was a stunning setup with balloons, rose petals, a photographer, and a sign that asked me to marry him. It was a moment I will remember forever and I was overwhelmed with tears of joy. It was a perfect proposal.
