It was Super Bowl Sunday-Feb 2, 2014, the day after my 29th birthday. I had big plans of ordering an entire pizza pie all to myself and watching TV all day. I was tired, hungover and didn’t want to leave my apartment at all. My friend Marina comes over around noon and says she got 2 VIP passes to the Bud Light Super Bowl party on the intrepid on the west side highway and it starts around 6. I said to her there was NO WAY I’m going anywhere! We hung out at my apartment for a few hours, had lunch & she finally talked me into getting dressed and taking a quick cab over to the party. “If it sucks, we’ll just leave” she said.
Well, who knew that my future husband would be at that same party?
We were hanging out by the bar, waiting for the Bruno Mars halftime show, when 2 guys walked up to us and started talking. I did my usual eye roll, because I just wasn’t in the mood. They were guys from New Jersey (Jersey boys I like to call them) and I was too hungover to engage in any conversation. But eventually it got interesting and we realized we both had so much in common-including our love for the New York Rangers.
Turns out, he had no plans on leaving his house that day & his friend Alan also dragged him to this party. Fate?
We texted for 3 whole months before we went out on an official date to a NY Rangers bar to watch a game. He was wearing a Marty St. Louis jersey, who was my favorite player. It was a playoff game and they won that night. And guess what? I guess we won too because we haven’t spent one day apart since then.
Austin proposed at Madison Square Garden on March 21, 2016 in an empty arena with both our families hiding in the stands. And he got it all on video! I still don’t know how I got so lucky but I thank god everyday. I guess dreams do come true. Watch our proposal video and let me know what you think! Oh and we now have an English bulldog named Marty.
