Christina and Ian
How We Met: Ian and I met almost 2 1/2 years ago through an online dating website. I had gone on a few (very bad!) dates and decided to meet Ian for the very first time after a lot of persistence! He was so adorable when he was trying to plan our first date. He was living about 45 minutes away at the time and wasn’t familiar with the restaurants in my area, so when he was trying to make a dinner reservation for a Friday night he had no luck! I decided to give the man a break and made a dinner reservation for one of my favorite restaurants close to my parents home.
I showed up a little early, sat down at our booth, and ordered some wine while I waited for him to arrive. I never imagined that he would be 45 minutes late to our first date!!! One of my best friends told me to just go home, but for some reason my gut told me to stay. When Ian arrived we had wonderful conversation, so much so much so that neither of us wanted to date to end.
We decided to go see a movie and I knew that there was something very special between us as he held my hand during the film. Our date didn’t stop there though; after the movie we met up with my girlfriend and went bowling! Are epically long date ended with the most perfect and memorable kiss I’ve ever had and I knew I had to see him again. We met the next afternoon for lunch and another movie and have been together ever since. This man, who showed up 45 minutes late to our first date, is the absolute love of my life. I can only imagine what life would be like if I hadn’t waited for him.
how they asked: I was asked to be a chaperone for a high school chorus trip to Walt Disney World. I asked Ian could come along to help take care of me (I have Lupus and was nervous going to Disney for the first time). We spent 24 hours on a bus with 40 teenagers and after a lot of stress, we finally arrived! On the second day of our trip we spent the day at Magic Kingdom! We had a wonderful day together, and I didn’t think I could be enjoying the trip anymore than I already was.
That night, the chaperones and all the students were supposed to meet in front of Cinderella’s Castle to watch the fireworks. I had no idea that they rope off all the pathways around the castle! I was trying to find my students and colleagues with no luck, so needless to say I was stressed to the max! We did end up finding a group of my students and made her way to the front of the castle for the firework show.
During the show I began to relax and it one point I remember feeling Ian’s hands on my hips. I thought, “aw, he’s being lovey and romantic, how sweet!”. The next thing I know, he’s whispering in my ear the words I will never forget for as long as I live. He leaned in and said “I can’t think of a more magical time to do this; will you marry me?!” I looked up at him and utter shock and disbelief. Then I looked down and saw the ring box opened with the most beautiful ring I’ve ever seen!
I hugged him and whispered in his ear “Of course I will!” We kissed, and went back to watching the fireworks and I have not been able to stop smiling since!!! After not so nonchalantly hinting for over a year that I was ready for a ring, he completely surprised me! The moment couldn’t have been any more perfect and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with the man of my dreams!
