How We Met
My fiancé, Drew, and I met through a mutual friend. My coworker insisted on setting us up, but her first task was to get me to join the gym so we could meet and spend time together. I remember meeting Drew for the first time at Crossfit Spartanburg. I was very nervous to be in a new setting, around new people; it was an intimidating place. He was always very friendly, and he went out of his way to talk to me. Although I was not ready to open up to a new relationship at the time, his friendship and persistence stuck with me. A few months later, we went on our first date. We both knew that our relationship was special from the start.
How They Asked
The proposal was a complete surprise! It was absolutely perfect. I thought I was going to Greenville, SC for a girls’ night. My friend picked me up, and we drove to the gym to meet our other friends, leave a car and ride together. We do this all the time, so I didn’t think anything of it. My friend made up an excuse for us to go inside the gym. When I walked in, I saw a sign pointing me through another door. When I opened the door, my first thought was “it’s happening.” I heard music and was handed roses by some of my closest friends. When I turned the corner, Drew was standing in the place we met under beautiful, string lights. My emotions overcame me, and I started crying. I hugged him and wouldn’t let go. When I finally did, he got on one knee and asked me to marry him. I could sense other people in the room, but it was dark. After we kissed, cheers broke out! When the lights came on, I saw 40 of our closest friends and family members. My parents and grandparents were in town from Pennsylvania and my best college friends, along with friends from Texas and Kentucky. Drew hired Kendra Martin to take pictures, so we have a beautiful gallery to remember this special night. After the proposal, we spent time with family and friends, many of whom we hadn’t seen in a very long time. It was the best night of my life.
