How We Met
Tekara and I met through a mutual friend in line to get Starbucks during the final week back in April of 2009. By June we had made it official and started dating. We met at the Tech Center at Temple University in Philadelphia and moved together to San Diego, CA for seven years, but recently moved back to Philadelphia in 2018.
Tekara is a moon lover, she has a full back tattoo of a tiger under a full moon, and she named her business Black Moon Doula, so I knew I wanted to propose, and I knew I had to somehow incorporate the moon.
How They Asked
I picked up Tekara after work and told her we were going downtown to meet up with a visiting friend for cocktails. We made a “pit-stop” at the Museum of Art because it was a full moon so I brought our telescope for us to check it out. After getting everything set up in the freezing cold, we finally got a good shot of the moon.
We took turns looking at the moon, then I switched out the lens for a specially printed lens I created. So, this time when Tekara looked into the lens, the beautiful moon did the talking for me as it read, “Will you marry me?” when she looked up I was standing in front of her with a beautiful engagement ring ready for her to do me the honor of being my wife.
She said “Yes”! And we popped a bottle of Moet in front of the museum while posing for a few photos (Thanks for bearing the freezing cold, Shane!)
