Sydney and Christine

How They Asked

Christine and I love the outdoors -, especially in the fall. It’s the best time of year. She suggested we go hiking and camp in the Adirondacks with her friends to kick off her “birthday weekend” and I, of course, agreed. She even told me her friends suggested this hike because they needed “extra film” for a movie they were releasing soon.

I noticed she wouldn’t let me help plan anything for the trip – even the Trader Joe’s list. When I went to open her backpack on the hike, she met me with a quick, “what are you doing?!”. I thought something might have been up, but wasn’t sure. When we got to the viewpoint it was beautiful. All of her friends pulled out their production equipment and started shooting.

Eventually, we sat down and she gave me a book as an anniversary gift. It chronicled our relationship, our favorite places, and our story. After finishing it, I looked up to find her asking me to spend the rest of our lives together. When I noticed the ring, I realized it was my mom’s original engagement diamond that she had placed in a new setting. I also realized that all of her friends were shooting us, not the nature around us. We cried, we laughed, and, of course, I said yes! Instead of camping, she booked a quaint cabin in Vermont and we had the most joyous weekend celebrating each other & our future.
