How We Met
I met Susannah through a mutual friend. She had rescued a cat that was diagnosed with hydrocephalus(water on the brain) which made his facial features extra cute. I had known of her due to us both being in recovery and attending the same anonymous program. We had started messaging on Snapchat solely so I could stalk her pet. The short conversations lead to longer ones and ended up with us falling in love. We called Louie (her cat) our love child because he died almost exactly a year after we met due to the water on his brain.
Susannah knew very early on that she wanted to spend her life with me although it took me a bit longer to figure that out. I was afraid of commitment and had a lot of work I had to do on myself before getting into a relationship. She loved me through some of the darkest times of my life. She never judged me and always allowed me my process. It made me love her even more. Here we are 3 years later and I knew I couldn’t picture my life without her in it.
How They Asked
Susannah and I travel often. By often, I mean at least once a month. Washington state had been on our list for quite some time. She wanted to visit Skaggit Valley and see the tulip fields and had become obsessed. She always said if we were to get married she hoped it would be in a field of flowers. So I figured I would do one better and purpose in a field of tulips. Her bestfriend moved to New Jersey last year and they have not been able to see eachother often. So I knew I had to surprise her at the airport and secretly invited her. My best friends were coming along as well and I couldn’t do it without them there. We had collaborated on a story and hired a photographer that my girlfriend originally thought was a gift for me(my birthday was the month before) from my bestfriend. I couldn’t have her suspecting anything.
There we were in acres of tulips and I got down on one knee and said, “you tryna fuck around and spend the rest of your life with me?” Early on in our relationship, she would say, “you tryna fuck around and annoy me forever?” So it was a spin-off of that. She said yes immediately.
When we arrived back at the air b n b we had a video on a projector of all of our family and friends congratulating us. Needless to say, it all went as planned. We could not be happier to begin the biggest adventure yet together.
