How We Met
Cait and I met a few years ago, October 31st, 2015, to be exact, and were already in relationships, but she was the most beautiful woman I’d ever laid eyes on. Not only on the outside, but on the inside too, such a good soul. For the two years we were friends, I knew all along we would make an amazing couple, we just meshed so well. But the timing was never right, and I wasn’t sure if she felt the same! Fast forward two years later and the greatest night of my life happened. Both of us no longer in a relationship, I asked her to have dinner with me and had every intention of telling her my true feelings that evening.
The magic between us was ever so present between us the entire night, and we both felt it. Somewhere between all of the wine and flirting and laughing, I told her how I felt about her and us. Amazingly, she felt the same! That night she told me about a ring that she acquired from her great grandmother after she had passed away, and that she wanted it to be her engagement ring. From that night on, I knew that I was going to be the one giving her that ring!
How They Asked
Basically I had been planning Cait’s proposal since the night we started dating. I had a million ideas floating around in my head for making it the perfect proposal. After a few months of changing my idea many times, I finally settled on having a picnic, as its something we do often, in a local park, Nay Aug. I met up with our amazing photographer, Danielle, and she really helped my ideas come to life. Once we had the date set for July 12th, I had to come up with a plan to get her all dressed up and actually get her to the park. I told her that we were going to a “Nurses Ball”, I am in school pursuing to become a Registered Nurse, so she bought it! But I had to get her to the park, so I told her that there was a new lavender garden being planted, knowing that lavender is Cait’s favorite flower.
As the date drew closer, I became so excited and she had no idea what I was up to! The day of the proposal, it was so stormy and overcast. I started to get upset because I thought that I wasn’t going to be able to do it. But then something hit me and I stayed positive that it was going to clear up and I was going to pull it off. I thought even if it started raining the second I got down on one knee, it would make a good story for later! Finally, it was time to set up with help from Danielle.
We scouted out a few spots but the rose garden was such a beautiful place to set up the picnic. Throughout our entire relationship, post-it notes have become our thing. Almost every day we’re leaving or hiding them for each other to find. So much so that an entire wall of our bedroom is taken up by our post-its.
I decided that they must be incorporated somehow into my proposal! Along with the amazing watercolor paintings that Cait has given me through the months. After we had set everything up, on what seemed to be the hottest night of the summer, it was time for me to bring Cait there!
She was so happy to check out the “lavender garden” with me. As we walked through the garden, I waited for Cait to see the picnic set up. Once she did, her beautiful smile never left her face. While she was reading the post-it notes that were hung up, I was behind her getting down on one knee. When she turned around I was writing a new post-it note for our collection! One that said “Will you marry me?” With such a bright smile, she said yes!
