How We Met
Steph and I have been together for 10 years! We first met at a dance studio in Vancouver at the end of 2010, and have spent an entire decade sharing adventures together. We’ve been married for 5 years now, and we had a beautiful winter wedding in 2015 after Steph proposed to me a year earlier. Her proposal was absolutely perfect and so romantic, and I’ve wanted to propose to her ever since. It was really important to me to plan something special for her the way she did for me, and I really wanted it to be a surprise. I decided to propose for our 5th wedding anniversary!
How They Asked
It was so exciting to finally give Steph her proposal! On our 5 year wedding anniversary, I surprised her during a photoshoot with our incredible wedding photographer Sara Rogers. I told Steph I wanted to do a shoot to celebrate our anniversary, so we got all dressed up for the occasion and she didn’t suspect anything. I had arranged all the details with Sara and she helped me pull off the surprise! Ever since we got engaged in 2014, Steph has always joked that she’s been waiting for her own proposal. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do, and I knew I could put together something really special for her.
We both kept our names when we got married 5 years ago, but a lot has changed since then and over the past year I had decided that I really wanted to officially take Steph’s name. I hadn’t told her yet and I knew it would be the perfect question to propose! We did our photo shoot at the same hotel where we took our wedding photos 5 years before, and I had our photographer Sara take us back to the beautiful staircase where we did some of our bridal portraits. She told Steph we were going to re-create our first look and got her to turn around. I grabbed a sign that I’d been hiding and I got down on one knee! It was such an unforgettable moment, and afterward, we popped champagne in the street celebrated! Now we are officially The Burltons and I couldn’t be happier.
