How We Met
I first saw her on December 31, 2014. She was wearing a white button down, a black tie, and red lipstick. I thought she was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. I was too shy to introduce myself but my best friend took note of my interest. A few weeks later her best friend and my best friend introduced us. We went out dancing but kept leaving the dance floor to talk because we couldn’t get enough of each other. I fell in love with her that night. We spent a lot of time together over the next few months and it was clear that we were meant to be in each other’s lives.
How They Asked
I am a romantic at heart and wanted to do something really heartfelt. I know all of the important dates in our life and sent her on a scavenger hunt throughout the house. The first clue was to go upstairs and find the items she was wearing when I first saw her. I laid the black tie and red lipstick on our bed and wrote a note about what I was thinking when I first saw her. The next clue sent her to the living room to find the alcohol we were drinking the first night we hung out. I told her about that night and the moment I knew I fell in love with her. Then I sent her to the dining room to find the food we ate on our first date. There was pizza, ranch, and beer waiting there for her. I reminded her of how I made a fool of myself and spilled ranch and pizza everywhere. The next clue to her to her keys to remind her of our first kiss. Our first kiss took place in the middle of the street, outside of her apartment. I dropped her off that night and we said goodbye with a kiss. There was a bonus item on the next clue that reminded her of the first time I said I love you. I wrote it in a letter that I gave to her on her birthday. The next clue took her to the dining room where we have a lot of St. Louis Cardinals and St. Louis themed items. I reminded her of the day we took off work to watch the Opening Day game at Ballpark Village.
It was the first time she officially introduced me as her girlfriend. The next clue sent her to the living room where there was champagne in the middle of the floor. The day I officially took ownership of my first house, we talked and drank champagne in the middle of my empty house until 3 a.m. The next clue had a bonus item that reminded her of the first time she said I love you back to me and then the clue sent her to our bedroom. There was a note on her nightstand because it was the first piece of furniture she moved into my house. She wasn’t officially moving in but she didn’t want to have just a draw of t-shirts anymore. The next clue sent her to the couch where much of our relationship began. We spent hours talking, watching TV, and getting to know each other on that couch. At the time, it was in her apartment but now it is in my house and it was one of the first things she moved in when she officially moved into my house. The last clue told her to go to the kitchen and find the love of her life. I was standing there, next to a note that said, “On February 11, 2016, I asked you a very important question…” I had the ring in my hand and I got down on one knee and proposed. She was so surprised she began to cry and it took her a while to get words out. Hearing her say “yes” was the happiest moment of my life. I cannot wait to begin our life together.
