How We Met
I have always been an introvert, but at that time I was in a point in my life where I wanted to meet more people. One of my friends arranged a BBQ pool party and invited every girl she knew. Aileen was on the list. She started messaging me and we figured out we had been introduced before a long time ago but we were really complete strangers.
The day of the party she came in wearing a beautiful purple dress. She looked stunning. There was no way I could take my eyes off of her. Later, we took a dip in the pool and I just talked and hours felt like minutes. Talking with her in the pool I felt like I knew her all my life, like were just two pieces of a puzzle fitting perfectly together. I didn’t want it to ever end, but she had to go. Other girls came up to talk to me, but my mind was elsewhere. That night she came back and my heart skipped a beat. She asked me out for ice cream. I had never felt this excited before.
The date was on Thursday. On Tuesday, I went to one of her soccer games and on Wednesday she came to visit my house. As we said goodbye I was going to kiss her on the cheek, but the forces of nature would have it no other way and we shared our first kiss. As she drove away, I could feel her lips lingering and the butterflies fluttering in my stomach.
The Thursday of the date we went for strawberry milkshakes and talked all night and I fell head over heels in love with her. The way she talked about life, and her passions made me want to spend the rest of my life listening to her stories. I had an overwhelming feeling that Aileen was something special and even though it was fast and I was extremely nervous I asked her to be my girlfriend. The best decision I ever made. Six years and four cities later I am more in love than ever.
How They Asked
We are now living in Hong Kong and have been travelling around Asia, but it had always been my dream to go to Santorini. So we saved up and did a Rome, Athens and Santorini trip. On our last stop Santorini, Aileen planned a private catamaran to sail us around the island and the volcano.
They were some of the most breath taking views I have ever seen. We swam in the natural hot springs of the volcano and relished in the bluest of blues of the Aegean sea.
After a deliciously authentic Greek meal, the captain steered the boat to a spot were you could see the whole caldera of Santorini on the foot of a small island called Thirasia. They asked me to step on the net and handed me a tablet with headphones. In the video, were family and friends from all over the world singing Jason De Rulo’s Marry Me and telling me to marry Aileen. After, she got down in one knee and asked me to make her the happiest woman in the world.
The ocean, the views, the boat and the girl of my dreams it was a fairy tale proposal. On the way back I took turns between admiring my gorgeous ring, the sun setting on the water in an amazing display of color and Aileen’s splendid beauty.
