How We Met
We first met online, both of us looking for friends in the LGBTQ community. I, Heidi, was in my second year of medical school and Julia had just started a graduate program in psychology. We instantly found eachother and became best friends immediately. We were inseparable. It was so unbelievably easy as if we had known eachother for years. I think we both were in love before we even realized. It took a good 11 months for us to both verbalize that love and start dating. The transition from friends to partners was effortless and perfect. We are still inseparable to this day, and she is definitely still my best friend.
How They Asked
We decided to take a long romantic weekend in Colorado over the weekend of February 7th-10th. Little did we know, that there was going to be a historic snowstorm in the mountains that same weekend! After some flight delays, a rental car fiasco, mountain highway closures, and some 4 feet of snow, we decided to stay the night in Denver before heading up to the mountains on Saturday. When we finally made it up the following day, we met up with my sister in Breckenridge and we all decided to go for a short hike with a local photographer.
We found a place that wasn’t in avalanche territory and that had a beautiful view of the mountains and the little ski town of Breckenridge. It was absolutely beautiful! The snow was up to our waist- we definitely fell a number of times.
When we got up to a clearing where you could see the surrounding mountain peaks, I turned around and my partner, Julia, was on one knee! We both started tearing up with joy, and she asked me to marry her, and of course, I SAID YES! It was a perfectly snowy sunny scene and a moment I will never forget!
