How We Met
We met back in May of 2017, I created a groupme for LGBTQIA of Black Greek Letter Organizations to have a safe space. Ayanha was added to the groupme by one of her friends and she quickly left because that was not her scene. We followed each other on Instagram but did not interact until much later. If you asked Ayanha why she followed me back she would tell you it’s because she thought I was cute but, she was too afraid to say anything. In early 2018, I would just check in on Ayanha’s page and one day I noticed some pictures were erased so I was emboldened to slide into Ayanha’s DMs. July 21st my corny pickup lines and charisma won Ayanha over and we began dating and have been enjoying the ride ever since!
How They Asked
Every year we attend Howard University’s homecoming festivities because The Mecca holds a special place in our hearts. This would be our final homecoming as we both have decided to move to Chicago, it was destiny that homecoming and national coming out day would be the same weekend and Dahlia took full advantage. For months, Dahlia reaches out to Ayanha’s friends and even her own sorority sisters for help to execute this surprise. I convinced Ayanha to let me a blindfold and lead her to a date I planned for National Coming Out Day but what came next took her by shock! Ayanha was lead down a path overlooking the Greek yard that was lined by rose petals as “While Were Young” by Jhene Aiko played in the background, sitting on the ledge lit by tea light candles were the words “Will You Marry Me?”
She Said Yes!
