How We Met

Amy and I met when I tried my hand at dating apps, where my profile was up for all of one day, before she found it, screenshot it and shared it with her mom and closest friends, telling them she had found the girl that was made for her! In my profile, I asked for someone who would share my love of coffee shops (Amy had previously spent time in Brooklyn building coffee shops), my love of the outdoors (Amy is an avid hiker and enjoys the mountains), appreciation of vinyl records (Amy worked in the music industry) and was a genuinely good-hearted person (and after almost three years together, I can assure you Amy is just that). Our third date was a picnic in a park filled with amazing conversation, laughter, and polaroid photos where it was all but clear from the way we looked at each other that we were smitten. Almost three years later, we have traveled to countless National Parks, explored lakes and mountains, and taken so many more polaroid pictures documenting our ever-growing love.

How They Asked

Amy surprised me with a trip from California to the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York, where we stayed in the most beautiful lakefront cabin at the 5-star Lake Placid Lodge. Then, she took me to the balcony of the Lodge, which was adorned with gorgeous flowers, lanterns, and candles, and showed me a video she’d been recording pieces of for the past 2+ years of our relationship. Little did I know, that her parents and my parents (who flew to New York from Texas) were standing behind us to surprise me. She got down on one knee, and in front of a gorgeous fireplace on one side and a sweeping overlook of mountains and lake on the other side asked me to marry her.

We then whisked away on a wooden boat across Lake Placid to explore the picturesque mountainside with trees turning the most stunning fall colors. The night ended with a beautiful lake view dinner with our families, stargazing, and s’mores. We then went back to her hometown in upstate New York to see her grandparents (who are 100 years old and love us dearly) and celebrated with a memorable engagement dinner filled with family and love. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect proposal, a more unforgettable moment in time, or a more thoughtful and loving fiancée.
