How We Met
I knew instantly after I met Lauren that she was a once in a lifetime person. Our first date was a little unconventional and actually lasted 24 hours! After that, we were hooked. I knew that this was someone I wanted to spend every single day with. I wasn’t planning on falling madly in love…the timing was tricky, to say the least. I was getting ready to go on a 2-month long backpacking trip to Southeast Asia that I had booked months earlier before I met Lauren. I’m a planner, and this was not a part of the plan. I didn’t know it then, but in the strangest of ways, Lauren entered my life at the perfectly imperfect time.
The first day of my trip my phone was stolen in Thailand; talk about a crazy and anxiety-filled way to start off two months gone halfway around the world! Lauren was so supportive, so understanding, so there for me. We were thankful for any time we were able to talk to one another despite 12 hour time differences and all of the obstacles along the way. I knew after juggling long distance from halfway around the world for two months that this was the real deal, that we could take on anything.
Lauren lives in Windsor, ON and I live in metro-Detroit, MI. 2 countries, 24 miles apart, but nonetheless, 2 countries. We’ve juggled international borders, crossing every chance we can to spend as much time as possible together for our relationship. Despite some of our hurdles, we’ve always had such a strong foundation and a commitment that no matter what, we’re in this for the long-run. We will do whatever it takes to make this work and to get our happily ever after.
I’m a big adventurer. I’ve been halfway around the world and back (a few times). The best adventure yet was getting to travel to Portugal last summer for 2 weeks, adventuring just Lauren and me. I fell more in love with her every day on that trip and knew she was the one.
How They Asked
In the early stages of Covid-19, despite everything our countries were starting to go through, we found our complete rainbow in the storm and became engaged on March 27, 2020, the happiest day of our lives! I knew from our first 24-hour date that I wanted Lauren to be my wife. I still have to pinch myself and remind myself that I’m the luckiest girl in the world that that wish came true and that she got down on one knee for ME! Looking down at your future fiancée committing their life to you is surreal; one of the most beautiful and breathtaking moments of my life.
We can’t be together right now due to International border restrictions, but we know no matter what, we’ll find our way back to one another. Our love was built on a foundation of being anything but convenient….but I know the love and life that we are building is going to be one we cherish. Every kiss, every night together, every day we are allowed to be together.
We count our blessings every day that we were lucky enough to find each other in this crazy world and in getting to be in this crazy love story. There might be a lot of unknowns in our world right now, but I know I can’t wait to tackle every challenge with my best friend and soulmate by my side. I love you always Lauren, I can’t wait to marry you.
