How we met: A few years ago, we met through mutual friends. At the time, we were both in a relationship with someone else. However, I always looked up to him, I knew there was something special about him, I just couldn’t pin point it. I admired how he was different and a leader among his friends. Not only was he noticeably handsome, he was also very quiet and mysterious. There was always a side of him that I wanted to learn more about.
One day, I went to go visit his sister and after me and her had hung out; she had to go run some errands. So Kassey and I decided to hang out and we ended up talking for hours until the sun went down, we sat on the steps of his house and talked. I would begin to leave but then we would keep sitting down and talk some more. That’s when I first felt that ‘spark’. I felt a connection and I felt like we really understood each other. That night, I went home and thought about our conversation for hours and eventually I stopped because I didn’t think it would ever be possible so I pushed it out of my mind. A few months later, I messaged him since I needed a friend to hear me out at the time and I knew he would understand. Instead of talking on the phone like I had planned, we decided to meet up. I didn’t imagine it would go anywhere, I just thought we were two good friends hanging out. But after we met up that day, I couldn’t keep him off my mind, I couldn’t stop talking to him and then we became best friends! He would pick me up and take me out for lunch, drop me off at the hospital for placement and surprise me with visits! I always had a feeling I would love him, I just didn’t know when… Ever since we’ve started dating, I have felt our love for each other grow stronger and deeper every day. Eventually, I realized he was Mr. Right and the one that I had been waiting for all my life! He was the one who met everything on my list and even more. God knew exactly who was meant to be with me and I have never been happier!
how they asked: He didn’t ask, she did. You read that right, I asked! For the past month, it became more and more clear to me that he was the one I was meant to spend the rest of my life with and I knew with all my heart that it was the right thing to do. Why did I choose to be the one to ask and go against the grain? Because I wanted to be the one to choose him, I wanted to show him how much I love him. So I set my mind to it and decided to buy the ring and surprise him with a proposal. The funny part is that the week before I was going to propose, he started joking around and said that if there was any couple who would do a role reversal proposal, it would be us. Right then and there, I knew he would love the idea too! Little did he know, I was going to pick up the ring later that day.
After I picked up the ring, I was just counting down the days until the day I was planning on asking him. Every night before bed I would look at the ring and smile. My heart would beat faster and the excitement that I felt was so incredible and overwhelming!… In the past couple winters, he had fallen in love with snowboarding and has been going every chance he got so I thought it would be fun to ask him to marry me the next time we went snowboarding. And it just so happened to be Valentine ’s Day! A couple of our friends and family went snowboarding as a group at Blue Mountain in Ontario. It was the coldest day of the year, around -40 degrees Celsius. I told everyone else beforehand what I had planned and made sure all the cameras were ready, three GoPros and one Canon camera to be exact!
After lunch, we started down the mountain and when we got part of the way down, I started telling him to “stop”. He was slightly confused of why I was telling him to stop but he sat down anyway. Everyone got the cameras ready and started recording! I got down on my knees and said:” This is the craziest thing I’m about to do, I just wanted to tell you I really love you, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you.” As soon as he realized what was going on, he said:” No way! What are you doing?!” I continued… and said:” You make me feel on top of the world and I want to do that for you every day too.”
He was completely shocked and extremely surprised! He’s usually a very difficult person to surprise because he can tell if there is something planned but with this, he had absolutely no idea!! Mission accomplished! Then I pulled out the ring from my jacket and asked him to marry me and he said:” OF COURSE!” After he had a few moments to take in what had just happened, we snowboarded down the rest of the mountain and celebrated for the rest of the evening!
