Hollie and Trent

How We Met

Trent and I went to school together, for a whole 7 years, and never spoke once. We were not put in a single class together and while we had plenty of mutual friends, he was a quiet person while I was loud and involved in pretty much everything to do with school (debating, drama, etc.) We were opposites.

After school, a group of us went away to celebrate the end of studying, and this is when Trent and I started speaking. After getting to know each other a couple of weeks, we soon started dating and 8 and a half years later we are more loved up than ever!

how they asked

We have been planning our 2 month Europe trip for over a year now. We were 3 weeks into our trip, having already visited Amsterdam, Paris and Avignon. We are both in love with the ocean and were seriously looking forward to the Cinque Terre – somewhere I have dreamed of visiting for 5 years now.

It was our second night here and Trent had organised dinner in Vernazza. We decided to visit the town a little earlier to explore. Trent suggested we climb to the top of Castella Doria, the castle in Vernazza, to take in the view before dinner.

As we got to the top, we took some photos at the lookout. An Italian woman with a camera approached us and asked if we would like her to take a photo…

Next thing you know Trent is down on one knee and the woman is snapping away.

It was so emotional, I was in absolute shock and a blubbering mess, Trent was in tears and could barely get the words out. He had organised the photographer to stay with us for 90 minutes following the proposal and take photos around the beautiful Italian town.

You can see them all here (link available until August 18).

Afterwards, dinner was in the mountain overlooking the spot we had just got engaged.

Now we have another 5 weeks to celebrate our engagement all over Europe!
