Hollie and Jason
How We Met
It was December 2014 when Jason first laid his eyes on a little waitress hard away at work. This took place at Emmet’s Kitchen & Tap in a little town in Missouri called Fayette. I was home from the University of Missouri, working over my winter break. Jason was visiting his mom in the same town, and they came in to the restaurant to eat. Jason saw me, and wondered who I was, and what I was doing in this town. He was dating someone at the time, and never said anything to me that night. Fast forward 6 months to June 2015 and I was home again from school working for the summer. One Thursday night (a night I didn’t normally work), Jason’s family came in to eat and little did they know, I would be their waitress. Jason was not with them at the time, but when they saw me, they thought of him. They asked me two questions, “How old are you?” and “Are you married?”…I was a little caught off guard and didn’t pay it much attention.
After some bribing from Jason’s mom, I was open to having Jason reach out to me (after some Facebook stalking of course). With it being Father’s Day weekend, Jason was coming home from Springfield, Illinois and had one thing on his mind. He knew I was the one he had spotted 6 months earlier and was excited to finally meet. Come Saturday night, Jason made a visit to Emmet’s knowing I would be working and introduced himself. I remember it so clearly, the hostess came to the back where I was making drinks for a table and said “There’s a boy here for you”. My heart dropped and I had to take a few minutes to calm down before I walked up to the front. After a short introduction, Jason and I exchanged numbers, and agreed to hang out later that night. Once I was off work, I texted my friends, “I think I just met my husband”. It was the weirdest feeling, but I knew he would become something special to me.
Jason picked me up and we went back to his parents house. We sat outside by a fire for hours, talking about life and getting to know each other. We soon realized the corresponding values and goals that we both had, and couldn’t wait to see each other again. We have been together ever since. I look back and think of the way we met and how everything has panned out, it is all too crazy not to be meant-to-be. The way Jason has pursued me since the day we met has proven so much to me, and being together forever has never been a question for either one of us. It’s so true that when you know, you know. After over a year of long distance, and several weekend visits, we are beyond ready to begin the rest of their lives together in the beautiful city of Atlanta, Georgia!
how they asked
November 2016, I was in Atlanta visiting Jason for two weeks before Thanksgiving. On November 18th, we had beautiful weather so Jason says, “hey, let’s go hiking!”. I’ve always loved him for his spontaneity. One of the things we love doing together is being outside, hiking or biking. So we set out 2-hours to North Carolina for a beautiful overlook called Pickens Nose. Being in Atlanta, we hit terrible bumper to bumper traffic, and it put a damper on our plan to get there by early afternoon. We finally arrived at the trail. At that time, there were forest fires in the NC mountains and the trail ended up being closed. We were bummed. As I turn around to head back to the car, I see Jason climb right past the “No Trespassing” sign and head up the smoky mountain (Little did I know he had a plan, and was determined to follow through).
Jason- “come on babe, it’ll be fun!”… 5 miles up the trail, no sign of getting closer to the top, and it just keeps getting colder, darker, and smokier. I was sure that we would get lost or eaten by an animal and make an appearance on Dateline. Another mile or so and it’s almost dark… We see headlights coming around the corner. I’m thinking, “great, now we’re going to jail for trespassing, but hey at least we have a ride back down this mountain”… Jason’s thinking “they’re going to take the diamond and leave us stranded”… It was a truck of two rangers placing a thermometer on the top of the mountain. Jason asked if they would take us up the rest of the way, but they said it was too dangerous.
So right there in front of the headlights of this stranger’s truck, the love of my life gets down on one knee and asks me to spend the rest of his life with him. I was in complete shock. I’m pretty sure the first words out of my mouth were “is this a joke?!”, but quickly followed by a YES! 5 minutes earlier I was so scared and frustrated at Jason’s persistence to make it to the top of this mountain, and then I was the happiest girl in the world. The men brought us back down the mountain safe and sound. :) We spent the 2-hour drive back to Atlanta crying and laughing over what just happened, excitedly naming our future children, and planning the rest of our lives together.
Later that week we got to fly home together to Mid-Missouri and share the exciting news with our family and friends over Thanksgiving. After multiple drives and flights back and forth, Jason and I couldn’t be more excited and ready to end the long distance and spend the rest of our lives together! So even though we never made it to Pickens Nose at the top of the mountain, we will be able to go back later in life and see it and maybe do a re-enactment. :) I love this story so much because it didn’t go as planned for Jason, but it’s unique and memorable to us. It is hilarious to look back at today, but definitely an array of emotion at the time. We can’t wait for this next chapter of our lives!
