How we met: Josh and I met one year ago at a Christmas part. He was a football coach at the local high school and I was about to begin my semester of student teaching. When I realized that I was student teaching in 5th grade and that his mom was a 5th grade teacher, I knew that I would be seeing a lot of him. At the beginning, we spent most of our time together with friends. Our first time really getting to know each other, he suffered an injury that sent him to the ER. I didn’t think he would ever want to spend time with me again after I blinded him for a few weeks.
Everything changed on Valentine’s Day. He had each of my 35 students walk in carrying a sunflower. The last one had a note attached to it that said “Will you be my Valentine? Check yes or no!” My students thought the world of him, and I was beginning to see why.
We had no idea at the time that his coaching career would bring him to the same school that I got a job at teaching 6th grade. So in the fall, we began our journey at SFCA both doing what we love most — working with students, and I have fallen more in love with him every day since then.
how they askedL We were going to have anniversary dinner with his parents at Doc Ford’s, which is the place where his parents got engaged. We were running late, but when we got there he said that his parents weren’t there yet. He offered to take me down to the pier to look out over the water. He pulled me close and starting tell me all of the things that he loved about me. Then he told me that he would do anything for me, and that there is no one that he would rather spend the rest of his life with. The next thing I knew, he was down on one knee with the biggest smile on his face as he asked me to marry him. I was at a loss for words. As soon as I said yes, there were cheers from behind me. Josh had invited both of our families and my best friend to come and be a part of this special moment. I now have the promise of forever so that every day he can continue to take my breath away.
This is what he posted when he put our engagement picture online: “One year ago I noticed this stunningly beautiful girl in my church and my mother pointed her out. The words out of my mouth were “She’s out of my league”. Well it just so happened this pretty girl was beginning her teaching practicum with my momma. So I got to see her quite a bit. After a few dates a few blind eyes and few good times i mustered up the courage to ask her out. For some reason she said yes. After many adventures, trips, outings, birthdays, family vacations and what not we were able to grow in our relationship. My dad was the Athletic Director. Her mom was the Assistant Athletic director. My mom teaches there she teaches there. My brother goes to school there her sister goes to school there. She coaches there I coach there and so does her brother. If that isn’t proof enough that God puts people in your life then I don’t know what else I can say. This girl is the most incredible blessing I have ever been given. She has shown me what true love really is and what it means to care unconditionally for someone. I love her and her family and she means more to me than anything else. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 ” Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails.” I truly pray that we can work towards a life of happiness and one that is full of love and laughter. So to my everything. I love you Hilary Rose Regnaert. #meetmrsmarciano”
