How We Met
Mitch and are from neighboring small towns in West Michigan. We met during our freshman year in college at Central Michigan University in Mt Pleasant, MI. We lived just a few doors down from each other in the dorms. We started dating our freshman year in college and dated for just over 5 years before getting engaged!
how they asked
The proposal took place at Boone Hall Plantation in Charleston/ Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. We were vacationing in Charleston (first time for both of us). Boone Hall was on our list of places to see, so I (Hayley) thought nothing of it when Mitch suggested we go; and with the weather looking iffy, it made sense we go on the day we went. Earlier that afternoon, Mitch had told me that he was going to pre-order tickets in our hotel lobby. Little did I know, he was going downstairs to call the photographer and put the ring in the car. As we parked and started to walk the grounds, he suggested we go by the horses first.
I babbled on about a horsemanship camp I went to in fourth grade, not realizing that there were photographers snapping pictures of us walking up. There was a plan. Mitch turned toward me, gave me a little kiss and pulled off my sunglasses. All of a sudden, he was on one knee!
After his wonderful speech, I gave my excited reply of “yes, of course!” The engagement ring is a Natalie K engagement ring with a cushion halo and a round diamond. No big story, just knew it was the one when I saw it! (I might also have peaked at her Pinterest boards for a little extra inspiration!)
After he popped the big question, the secret proposal photographers congratulated us. I still had not realized they were even there! Little did I know that Mitch was not the only conspirator. He had both sets of parents, siblings, extended family, and a few close friends in on the surprise too. As we called various friends and family members, it quickly became clear that an incredible amount of time and planning went into the proposal. It was perfect!
