Hannah and TJ

How We Met: The story of how TJ and I met is actually pretty comical, considering he knew me long before I knew him. My sister was the matchmaker in our love story because her and TJ had been friends long before I even knew who he was. He would always joke around with her that he would end up dating me, but that seemed irrational because at the time I was in a long-term relationship. A few years went by and I returned home from my first year of college at Indiana University newly single. Teej was always with my sister, so I began to see more and more of him throughout the summer months. On August 27th, 2014, he asked my sister to go eat with him at a local brewery up in Michigan to which she replied, “I can’t, but you should take Hannah!” Of course Teej loved the thought of that idea, so he took me up to Greenbush and we had our very first date without even knowing it was a date. Afterwards, he took me to Ogden Dunes where we had a bonfire on the beach… and the rest is history!

how they asked: I had just arrived home at 5:00 AM after a 12 hour car-ride home from New York City with a few of my girlfriends. To our surprise, he got the day off of work so he treated me to my favorite meal (breakfast, duh!) and we took a nap. We went to Bass Pro for a few hours to walk around and then got coffee at Starbucks, just like we did on our second date. He had told me a month or so back that his parents would be hosting a party at their friends house, so to my knowledge that’s what I thought we had planned for the evening. While we were at Starbucks, he received a phone call from one of his friends who needed help moving some things at work. Teej is always helping everyone out, so I didn’t even think twice. He told me to go and buy a dress for the party while he helped him out and that we could just meet at the house at 7:45. It was apparent as soon as I pulled into the driveway at 7:46 that there wasn’t going to be a dinner party. As soon as a stepped out of my car, I was directed to a sign which said, “Hannah, August 27th, 2014 was the beginning. August 18th, 2015 changes everything. I love you, meet me on the beach.” I was led by a beautifully lit walkway all the way down to the shore where Teej was standing under the most exquisite hand-made pergola. He said words a woman would only dream of hearing and then asked me to be his wife, exactly where we had our first date just 356 days before.
