How We Met

We met back in October 2013 through mutual friends and I’ll be honest it wasn’t love at first sight! Josh had a big, bushy beard at the time, which was a slight turn off for me. But, despite my initial hesitance I agreed to go on a date with the funny bearded man. And, I am SO glad I did! It didn’t take long for me to see past the beard and realize what an amazing, sweet guy he was. He took me out to dinner at one of my favorite restaurants in Arizona and afterwards he drove me up to the top of a mountain and as we got out of the car, he popped the trunk and there was a bottle of wine and wine glasses there for us. I mean come on… what guy does that for a girl on the first date?! Needless to say, the rest is history from there. :)

how they asked

Before we left for Kauai, I had a very strong feeling Josh was going to propose on this trip. I picked up on a couple hints from him… he’s not the best at keeping secrets! So, I started telling everyone that I was 99% sure it was happening in Kauai. But, then we got there and several days passed, I started to think it actually wasn’t going to happen. And, I couldn’t help but think how disappointed everyone would be because I had gotten their hopes up! On the day of the proposal, we had planned to get photos done with a photographer in Hawaii, who our friends had shot with a few months prior. Josh set up the whole thing, which is probably what made me the most suspicious! However, when we woke up that morning the weather was terrible. It was pouring rain, you couldn’t see the mountains or the water… not ideal for picture taking! I think I even said “today is not our day!” lol. I was all bummed and stressed because I didn’t think we were going to be able to get these pictures done. But, Josh was cool as a cucumber and wasn’t bothered by the weather at all (or so he made it seem.) Thankfully the weather cleared up a couple hours before pictures and obviously they turned out AMAZING!

We started off taking pictures in these taro fields by our hotel, and at that point I wasn’t totally convinced it was happening. So, after that, we headed over to Hanalei Bay to take the rest of our pictures in time for the sunset. We spent a little time taking pictures on the beach and then moved to the iconic Hanalei Pier, which on any other day would have been packed. But, luckily because of the weather there weren’t too many people. Then, all of a sudden our photographer stopped taking pictures and Josh was checking his phone because it looked like a storm cloud was coming, and I was like “can you get off your phone we’re in the middle of taking pictures?!” and then he asked the photographer if everything looked good and then it happened!

I wish I could tell you what I said or what he said, but to be honest it was a complete blur! Although, I had an inkling it was going to happen, there are still no words to explain that actual moment. We were on cloud 9! And still are! I’m so happy we have all these pictures to relive that moment and can show them to our children someday. It was the most romantic proposal ever and I’m so excited to spend forever loving each other!
