How We Met
John and I met the way many people do these days: through a dating app! I’m proud to say that I made the first move, because when I know what I want I go after it! From there, John and I spent the next year and a half growing, learning more about each other and falling more in love each day. We have an inside joke that I pulled from my days working as a camp counselor during my summers in college. In order to get kids fired up about team building activities, we would tell them about camp records.
How They Asked
When the kiddos accomplished the activity in a certain amount of time, the counselors would yell, NEW CAMP RECORD!!! John and I carried this into our relationship based on the fact that the longest relationship I had prior to being with John was about 3 months. Each day that we continued our relationship was considered a new camp record!
So how does this all tie together? Well, one weekend this past November we had friends visiting from out of town. They suggested we walk around the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden as they hadn’t been there before. John and I were eager to show them because it’s one of our favorite places to visit. We made our rounds in the sculpture garden, taking photos and showing our friends around.
When we stopped to take pictures in front of the cherry on the spoon sculpture (one that Minneapolis is well known for!), John pulled me into a hug and told me he loved me. Thinking nothing of it, I told him that I loved him, too! However, he then told me that I was his best friend and that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. He finally pulled out a gorgeous ring, and asked me if I wanted to start a new camp record! I laughed, cried, jumped up and down and somewhere in my excitement managed to say YES!! We are so so excited to start this new chapter together!
