How We Met
Joseph and I met sometime in March 2013 while we were both attending college at New Mexico State University. He was in a fraternity and I was in a sorority and we somehow came across each other at some point.
Fast forward to post-college, I moved to Phoenix and he moved to Dallas. We semi kept up with each other’s lives just via social media. I’d get the occasional slide in the DM’s from him, usually replying to my stories with great interest or complimenting me… I guess a “beautiful” DM can go pretty far. ;) He came out to Phoenix in 2018 for his sister’s graduation from ASU.
He reached out to me and I met him out for drinks. He offered to fly me out to Dallas a couple of weeks after and I was very hesitant. Knowing what it could potentially turn into—I wasn’t sure how I felt about dating someone long distance and I didn’t want to ruin any friendship he and I shared. I flew out to Dallas and that was just the start of our beautiful journey…
…We did long distance for about a year and he moved here this past January- yay!!!
How They Asked
It started with rolling out of bed and making my way to the couch with a cup of coffee. As we’re sitting there, Joseph asked me to go get the door. I repeatedly questioned him but finally went to go get the door. I opened it and standing there was my mom (from Texas) and best friend. I was speechless, saying things like what are you guys doing here?!! I welcome them in and was so excited for whatever the weekend was going to entail. I got ready and Joseph had made us girls appointments for us to go get our nails done.
After that, he said we would meet for brunch but first I needed to go pick up a package. When I walked out of the car to get this package, I saw him standing outside in a courtyard near a fountain, sweating and with a big beautiful bouquet of flowers. I thought—oh…my gosh… this is it!!
I turned around and there were my mom and Gabby to witness it all… as well as his best friend Jerry who was the photographer! He told me how much he loved me and asked me to marry him. I said YES! He told me we wouldn’t be going out to brunch but that he would meet us at home instead. Us girls drove home and…
again I was surprised by his parents sitting in our living room! We popped a couple of bottles of champagne. He then told me he hired a chef to bring our favorite restaurant to the US!!! He said, “I knew you wouldn’t be completely comfortable if we went out to dinner. I wanted you to be comfortable and not have to worry and celebrate with our loved ones. A chef will be here in a couple of hours…” And we spent the evening and well into the night sharing stories, laughs and never-ending love!!!
