Hannah and Erik
How We Met
Erik and I met through the app Tinder, it was love at first swipe. We both lived in the same town, about 10 minutes apart but never met until we saw each other photos! Erik went to private school and I, public, but had mutual friends just never bumped into each other until 2015. We started dating 1 month after meeting, the relationship was quickly tested when I received my first job after graduate school in another state.
For the first 2 years, our relationship was long distance. Throughout those 2 years, we realized we were truly in love. While in another state, Erik began the police academy to protect and serve our hometown so I began to search for a new position back in CT. I was lucky enough to land a job just before he graduated. Both starting new careers at the same time, we decided to add even more to our plate, two rescue pups. From a quick swipe on an app, I found my soulmate.
how they asked
Since starting new careers and adding two rescue pups to our life, it was time for a much needed vacation. We decided on going somewhere warm, Punta Cana. We woke up at 5am to get to the airport, where we waited 4 hours to board the plane. Once getting on the plane and waiting an hour, there was an issue so they had us get off to get on a new plane. It’s now 2:30pm and we are ready to fly out, only to wait 1 more hour because luggage was taking so long to load. Now I’m on edge because I have no patience and Erik is doing his best to keep me calm and relaxed ( very typical as I easily become stressed, oops!).
We finally arrive at the resort at 8:30 pm. We are both extremely hungry so we quickly grab food and head to the room. At this point, it’s been a long day and I’m exhausted. I sit on the bed and Erik tells me to close my eyes. I say “Am I getting a present?!”. My face is in my hands and I can start to hear him get on one knee. I started to cry and I can’t open my eyes because I have an ugly cry face! I finally look up and he asks me to marry him. Of course, I say YES. The long hours to get here was so worth it!
