How We Met
I met Austin in October of 2017 when my best friend, Alex, and I went to a Texas Tech football game. We stopped by to visit Alex’s boyfriend at his house on the way to the football stadium. We walked in and Austin was sitting on the couch (I did not know that Alex’s boyfriend had a cute roommate). Alex went into the kitchen, leaving me in the living room with Austin. I don’t remember who spoke first, but what I do remember is how easy it was to talk to him.
We went on a couple of dates while he was out of school for Christmas break of that year, but I didn’t think he actually liked me. We would text on and off, but I was afraid that a long-distance relationship wasn’t feasible—I had moved back to DFW and he was moving back to Midland after graduation. However, 19 months after we first met, God brought us together again. I had just returned from a trip to Iceland (a place Austin had always wanted to go), so he texted me to ask how it was. Within a few weeks, I had realized he was my person. On May 4, 2019, I drove to Midland and we went on our second first date. The rest is history!
How They Asked
We had been planning to go to Costa Rica for vacation, but because of COVID, we had to quickly change our plans. Instead, we decided to go to Oregon to visit Austin’s sister and brother-in-law and to celebrate his niece’s first birthday. On July 19, 2020, Austin gave his niece, Charlotte, one last gift to open. She unwrapped a little blue box. Austin took it from her, opened it up, got down on one knee, and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him while we were surrounded by both of our families. Charlotte’s last gift was a new aunt.
