How We Met
We met the old fashioned way (online)! On our first date, I was wearing a full leg brace, and could barely walk (I had a dislocated knee from falling off my bike). On our second date, we surprisingly ran into my entire family at an aquarium (I was SO embarrassed!). Sam took everything with such ease, he became my best friend in a heartbeat. We did everything together and became inseparable.
How They Asked
We went for a walk in the forest near our house, which is one of the favourite things to do together. He stopped walking and I thought he was tying his shoe. I just kept wandering away until I noticed what was happening – I responded with an astounding OF COURSE and hugged him so much we almost toppled over. We have been together for 5 years, and I always wanted our proposal to be just the two of us, no big show. I was wearing rubber boots and sweatpants, I had no clue it was coming. He couldn’t have picked a more perfect ring, the stones are Chatham Alexandrite, and the band is rose gold welded to look like a tree branch. He called my mum before and told her his plan, she was so happy. I love the outdoors and the proposal was beyond perfect. I am fairly non-traditional and absolutely LOVE that the ring is not a diamond, and it suits us perfectly.
We also love taking photos together and shot our own engagement photos in the same forest where he proposed. When we shot our photos, the Ontario trilliums were out in full bloom, and it was like being in a fairytale.
We travelled to Iceland in 2018, and have been talking about getting married there since, and in 2021 we will be having our dream Icelandic wedding with our immediate family.
