How We Met
A little over 3.5 years ago my grandma called me on the phone and told me that she went to the library and was talking to one of the librarians. They started talking about both of their families. The librarian asked my grandma to show her pictures of her grandchildren. When the librarian looked at the pictures, she pointed straight at me and said “What is her name? I think she would be perfect for my son, Andrew.” My grandma asked me if it’s ok if she gives the librarian my information to give to Andrew. I was a little hesitant at first because I was so over dating at the time but I eventually gave in and told her she can give my cell phone number to Andrew.
During Christmas break, Andrew texted me and asked me to get drinks with him. He allowed me to pick the restaurant and I picked my favorite restaurant which had the best cucumber vodka lemonade drink. I remember not having dinner that night because I didn’t think it was going to take that long and was planning on having dinner after the date. I definitely underestimated that. We ended up talking for 3 hours. My mom was even getting worried I was gone so long. Right after the date, Andrew texted me right away and told me how much fun he had and how he would like to go on another date. I remember thinking about how mature and nice he was. Now 3.5 years later we have now engaged thanks to my grandma and Andrew’s mom.
How They Asked
Nantucket has always been a special place for me and my family. We used to go every summer since I was a baby and it was my dad’s favorite place. About a little over a year my dad passed away from cancer. This summer was the first time we’ve gone back to Nantucket since he had passed away.
We made a reservation at the Galley which is a beautiful restaurant in Nantucket on the beach. We had some delicious dinner. After dinner, I went to the bathroom and when I was in the bathroom Andrew told the waiter to bring him a bottle of champagne because he was going to propose to me. When I came back from dinner he asked the waiter if someone can take a photo of us on the beach. The waiter told us that the hostess can take a picture of us.
We walk to the beach and she takes a few photos of us. She asks us if these photos are good or if we want her to take more photos. Andrew says these are good, but I have one more thing I want to do. Then he proceeds to kneel on one knee and asks me to marry him! He then tells me that he was able to ask my dad for permission to marry me before my dad passed away. I was literally sobbing. It was the happiest day of my life!
