How We Met
I met Thomas when we were freshmen in college. We both were involved in Greek life at our University and met at an event that his fraternity put on. From the moment I met him, I thought he was so handsome and sweet and always so much fun to be around. Over the next few months getting to know him, we became really great friends.
It’s funny to look back on now because we would always confide in eachother and ask for relationship advice. I went to the Bahamas for spring break with some friends and the moment we landed back in the states he called me to ask how my trip was. I remember my mom telling me that he liked me and that we would be so great together (Mom knows best right?). We went on our first date on my birthday in May and he asked me to be his girlfriend on July 4. We have been inseparable since he truly is my best friend.
How They Asked
Since Thomas and I have been together for so long I always figured I would have an idea of when he was going to propose. We have talked about it multiple times and knew we wanted to get married, it was just a matter of when. I can honestly say that he blew every expectation out of the water and surprised me in the most special way. We have a friend who is a photographer and has taken pictures of us before. She reached out to me in May and said that she wanted to take some spring/summer pictures of us since the last ones we took were in December. She and I planned a date and picked a location and I was so excited to have new photos taken of us since Thomas is being deployed in the fall. Unfortunately due to some complications with COVID, we had to push the photoshoot back a week. I should have caught on when Thomas was so bummed about having to reschedule that something fishy was happening ( he is not a huge picture person). But the week went on and the day of the shoot was finally here. We got to the location which was a field behind an old church in town and Kennedy (our amazing photographer friend) set up the spot.
She always brings a speaker to listen to music during the shoot which makes things so fun. A few songs in and our song (Cross My Heart by George Strait) starts playing. I was so oblivious to what was actually happening. Thomas started dancing with me and spinning me around telling me how he couldn’t wait to dance to this song at our wedding one day. It was such a blissful moment. The song was coming to an end and he said he had a pose for us, and that is when he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.
Totally shocked, I think I blacked out for a moment before I said yes ( I am sure most brides can relate to that split second where you don’t know if you are awake or dreaming). I am pretty sure I was in shock until I Facetimed my sister and that is when the tears really started flowing. We spent the rest of the evening with my parents, Facetiming and texting friends and just soaking in the little moments. There is truly nothing like the day of your engagement and I will cherish June 28 forever!
