how we met
Around December 2011, my sister brought me to her young adult group called SPUR at Lincroft Bible Church. I enjoyed it so much that I started attending regularly. During spring break, a new guy (Rick) showed up. I remember seeing him and thinking, “a tall, blonde, blue-eyed boy, who loves the Lord…I’m sold!” That night, I got into the car with my sister and told her that I was going to marry him one day. After a year of secretly liking him and us getting to know each other more and more, he finally started showing interest. In April 2013, he asked to come talk to me and shared that he was interested in dating and wanted to pursue a relationship with me. We have been dating for almost three years now.
how they asked
For every Christmas Eve, my brother makes a Christmas Music Video Special featuring our family and our recorded voices. This has been a tradition in our family for 20 years now. This year, Rick and I made a video together in the Christmas Special to the song, “Baby, It’s Cold Outside.” Just as we do every year, the whole family watched it on Christmas Eve. Afterwards, we went to our church’s Christmas Eve service. Rick and I planned to go to this service together. Rick’s family showed up to the service as well so I immediately invited them over to have dessert and watch the video we made. As both of our families gathered in my living room, the Christmas Music Video Special began, but this time, there was a different ending!
Rick and my brother filmed an alternate ending where Santa in the video makes a ring box magically appear in his hand and hands the box over to Rick. The video ended with Rick walking toward the camera. My heart dropped! Suddenly, all of the lights came on in my living room, Rick took my hand, and lifted me up off of the couch. He spoke sweet words to me and asked me to marry him. I could not have been more surprised and thankful for such a beautiful, personal, and well-thought-out proposal!
