Gabrielle and Andrew
How We Met: Andrew and I both went to Ole Miss but somehow didn’t manage to meet until our third year of college. We finally met on Super Bowl Sunday (February 6,2011). My friend invited me to a Super Bowl party that a guy she was dating was going to. When we got to the “party” the only people there were Andrew and his friend. Andrew is shy, so I didn’t really get to know him that night. When we left, I told my friend that I thought he was really good looking but I wasn’t sure if we’d see each other again anytime soon.
Fast forward a few weeks and my sorority and his fraternity hosted a swap at Funky’s on the Square. I went to the ATO house before the swap with my friends and didn’t see him but I secretly hoped he would make it. Dressed as Anna Kournikova, I found him at the bar later that night and gave him my number. A few days later we had our first date, and almost 4 years later he proposed.
how they asked: Ole Miss has been a big part of our story. Because I am from Virginia, and Andrew is from Mississippi, our story took place in Oxford. For the first time, I spent Thanksgiving with Andrew’s family in Oxford so I could stay for my first Egg Bowl (Ole Miss v. Mississippi State).
The morning of the Egg Bowl began with mimosas and tailgating as usual, but it was unusual because I couldn’t get ahold of any of my friends. Finally they showed up and the tent crowd started to get larger. Andrew pulled me to the side of the Grove and began talking to me away from everyone else. Halfway through his speech, I finally figured out what was going on. I stopped him and told him I had to put down my drink (oops), which obviously threw him off. As I looked up, all of our friends and family were gathered watching the proposal.
Andrew continued to tell me how much he loved me and I remember the last thing that he said. “Gabby, I only have one question for you … will you marry me?”
I was in shock! Our friends, family and fellow Ole Miss fans in the Grove started cheering and obviously ended with a “Hotty Toddy” chant. It was so amazing to have all of our friends there to celebrate, and the icing on the cake was that we beat Mississippi State!
We are getting married on April 2, 2016 in Oxford, MS.
