How We Met
Kevin and I are from the same hometown and have known each other since elementary school. My mom even recently found a photo of us on the same soccer team in middle school and we had no idea because we did not become very close friends until we both attended the same college, Bridgewater State University. We both served on several boards of organizations at BSU together and each spent a year serving as President to BSU’s Student Government Association .
While he had a crush on me since high school, in college I deflected his attempts at wooing me for about two years of outings that he considered dates and I considered hanging out as friends. Finally, I came to my senses and let my guard down.
how they asked
After a little over a year of dating, Kevin proposed to me under a full Blue Moon this past July on the Newport Cliff Walk.Yes, he asked my parents for their blessing first. Yes, he hired a photographer. Yes, he made sure my best girlfriend took me to get my nails done first.
That morning, a dozen roses with a cryptic message about our future were delivered to me at work, it was my last day in that position and I was moving to a new job the following week.
I had thought we were going out to a fancy dinner that night to celebrate my new job, so I was dressed up in a pretty dress and high heels. After what felt like walking in a mile on the gravel path of the Cliff Walk, my feet were killing me and I was thinking to myself “why are we walking so far before dinner!?” Turns out he was trying to find the perfect spot, free of tourists, to pop the question! Newport has always been one of our favorite date spots, making it such a sweet and thoughtful place for our engagement.
After we took a few photographs with the photographer, we enjoyed a wonderful dinner at The Spiced Pear within the Chanler Hotel. They sat us at a window with a gorgeous view of the Blue Moon sparkling on the ocean and treated us to complementary champagne and dessert to celebrate our engagement. It was absolutely amazing to have that time to ourselves immediately after to just enjoy the moment and talk about how excited we were to be starting and planning this next part of our life together. Once we finished up dinner, we rushed home to tell our parents and loved ones!
