How We Met
Gabriela originally from the Dominican Republic moved to Miami in 2011 to start her career in the Hospitality industry and while adjusting to a new life in a new country while looking for things to do she started doing Crossfit at a box that ended up closing and while searching for new places she signed up at a Crossfit gym, where Parvin is the Head Coach. By then Gabriela had fallen in love with the sport and she went daily to the morning classes where she had other coaches but Parvin. While they both knew each other and had their own lives going on, Gabriela eventually transitioned to the afternoon classes where Parvin was the coach. One day after a small accident being the Firefighter/Paramedic that he is, he rushed to help her and take her to the ER, he visited her at therapy, helped her with her mental and physical healing process of the injury and won her heart overgrowing a little closer together through it all. Both with very different and opposite personalities managed to blend in perfectly together to start their relationship.
After Parvin left Cuba he lived and went to school in Merida for 8 years before moving to the US. Gabriela’s father moved to Playa Del Carmen when she was only 13 years old and he lived there for about 15 years after that, where Gabriela spent most of her summers and holidays. Mexico is definitely a special place for both of them, more like a second home.
Although Parvin is currently a Firefighter/Paramedic and Head Coach, he actually obtained a Bachelors Degree in Hospitality in Mexico and Gabriela also has a Bachelors Degree in the same field, obtained in the Dominican Republic. That leads you to understand why they both love traveling so much.
Parvin insists that Gabriela has a bigger love and obsession over Crossfit than he does, yet he has practiced the sport for longer at a higher level. This is the true couple that trains together remain together! It was meant to be!
How They Asked
After having to cancel their September vacation because of Hurricane Dorian, they decided to go for a small vacation to Playa Del Carmen, Mexico in October. Staying in Playa del Carmen for their 3-night vacation, they decided that on October 16th they would rent a car and spend the day in Tulum.
On the way to Tulum, they stopped at Cenote Dos Ojos where they spent about 1-hour swimming in these beautiful underground waters. After leaving the Cenotes they continued their route to Tulum and stopped to spend the day at Mia Tulum Beach Club. Once there, they ordered some appetizers and drinks while enjoying the sun and awesome breeze on a beach bed by the water.
In the afternoon Gabriela asked Parvin to go for a walk along the beach and take some pictures, passing through other beach clubs and hotels, Gabriela saw a nice spot where she asked Parvin to take a picture of her sitting and looking towards the water. Once she sat, Parvin improvised to set her phone on the sand and start recording what would be the best moment of their lives so far, he then went over to her and got on one knee with the most beautiful ring, she got nervous and didn’t know what to do so just hugged him and said yes, Parvin put the ring on her finger, they hugged and continued to walk along the beach with the biggest smiles on their faces.
Of course, before heading back to Playa Del Carmen, in typical Gabriela and Parvin fashion they went to have some street tacos to celebrate!
FACT: The ring not only had the special meaning of the proposal but it was also a ring from DoAmore, a company that gives back, where every ring bought helps build a water project for a community in a developing country, and is directly responsible for giving one person from that community access to clean water.
