Frances and Manuel
How We Met
Manuel and I met at Long Beach State, we were both part of the same student business organization. He later confessed that he joined just to get to know me. He had seen me on campus his freshman year and didn’t see me again until two years later when he came to our first general meeting so he knew he had to join! We became friends but I was concentrated in my studies so the last thing on my mind was to be in a relationship.
But Manuel was patient and persistent. He kept pursuing my heart and slowly began tearing down my walls. I was falling in love without even knowing. Six months after our first date, we had our first kiss, and now we are getting married! Since we began dating, I’ve been blessed by Manuel’s selfless love and loyal heart. He forgives and uplifts me. He makes me want to be a better person and a better wife. I thank God for the honor to love and be loved by Manuel.
how they asked
For our two-year anniversary, Manuel planned a surprise date at the Huntington Library. I had just started a new job and was a little overwhelmed so I was grateful that he took care of everything. We went to church in the morning like any regular Sunday, and then headed to our special date. It was a beautiful sunny day. I love nature and immediately fell in love with the Huntington Library. We looked at the map and Manuel suggested we visit the Japanese Garden at the end. I didn’t think much about it and agreed.
We had lunch and then walked around the different gardens and museums. It was finally time to visit the Japanese Gardens. I remember feeling so happy. It was the perfect day. We walked over the bridge and Manuel asked a “stranger” to take our photo. It was actually one of his coworkers but I had no idea. We were taking a photo, when all of the sudden he got on one knee and asked me to be his wife.
When I realized what had just happened, I said YES!! He had planned the proposal for months, and I had no clue!!! But it was perfect and I am forever grateful that we get to spend the rest of our lives together.
