How We Met
Thanksgiving weekend of 2011 we both attended a surprise birthday party at a vodka bar in downtown Denver for a guy neither of us knew. Both of us had friends ask us if we wanted to go and neither of us knew what we were getting into but were happy to go have a good time. While we were standing around with our friends awkwardly trying to avoid the birthday boy, Fitz’s friend came up to my friend and me and asked us if we were single. She is married and told his friend that I was single. His friend then proceeded to try and introduce Fitz and I but wouldn’t stop talking long enough for Fitz and I to get a word in…at all! So, my friend and I left and as we are leaving my friend says to me “that guy (Fitz) was really into you and kept trying to make eye contact with you.” But I wasn’t interested because his friend was acting so strange! A week later, I decided to go to a hipster dance bar in Denver with some girls and within 5 minutes of us being there, I see Fitz walk through the front door and I immediately knew that it was too serendipitous to ignore…so I walked up to him and said, “I know you…” and he said “I know YOU…” and we proceeded to talk and dance for the remainder of the evening…and the rest is history!
how they asked
We designed the ring together so I knew it was coming fairly soon but I guessed that there was a 75% chance that it would happen on the night he did it just because he’s not that good at keeping secrets! We went out to dinner for our 3 year anniversary and I kept looking for ‘signs’ during dinner. But he didn’t seem nervous or anything so by the time we got to the end of dinner and were having such a great time, I didn’t think he was going to do it that night. We were walking out the revolving door at the restaurant and I start to notice some of my friends standing in the parking lot and then it hit me……it was actually happening! He had invited 14 of my closest friends and stood in front of them to get down on his knee and propose to me…the way he did it was such a surprise and incredibly meaningful to me to have my close friends there during that moment! One of my friends got it on video and Sara Lynn was there to capture it on camera which is the best gift I could have ever asked for at our proposal!
