How We Met
Jacob and I met on a dating app while at college at Syracuse University. We’re both so thankful that we found each other on the app because we probably wouldn’t have met any other way at such a large university. For our first date, we went ice-skating, and we immediately clicked. Our first date lastest for hours, and we both couldn’t wait for the next date!
After an amazing 2 years of college together, we moved in together in the Washington DC area where Jacob is from. Now, we both have successful careers: Jacob as a Mechanical Engineer in the private sector, and myself as a Medical Laboratory Scientist at an academic medical center. We just bought our first house together this year, and can’t wait to adopt a dog soon!
How They Asked
For our 5 year anniversary, we decided to go to South Bethany, Delaware. South Bethany is a quiet beach town, and has many scenic recreational areas to bike, swim, and kayak; all activities we love to do. The area is nostalgic for Jacob since his family has owned a vacation home there.
This trip, we stayed at a family friend’s vacation home. On our first evening of the trip, we went on a bike ride and found a small beach on the bay that was a part of Fenwick Island State Park. It is a secluded beach where all the locals come to view the sunset over the bay. We were both taken aback by the incredible view, and although Jacob had originally planned on proposing on the oceanfront beach, he knew this was where he wanted to pop the question.
The following night, we got dressed up and headed to the bay for the sunset. It was cloudy, but the most beautiful rays of peach and pink light were shining through the clouds and reflecting on the water. It was the most romantic place I could possibly imagine to say yes to spending our lives together forever, and it will always be memorable to us. After the proposal, we watched until the sun set completely. We look forward to watching many future sunsets together there.
