How We Met
Nick and I met when we were 12 years old at a minor league hockey game. Nick and his friend came over to me and my friends. We hung out and watched the hockey game. Our friends exchanged numbers, but Nick and I did not so I never thought I would see him again. He called me out of the blue a few weeks later and asked me to go to a rollerskating rink with him where he asked me to be his girlfriend. Of course no Jr. High relationship lasts and Nick broke my 12 year old heart. We attended the same High School and remained friends. After graduation he attended Arizona State University and I moved to Portland, Oregon. Both of us going our separate ways, Facebook reconnected us and we rebuilt our friendship. One day after not talking for a few weeks or months Nick left a message on my wall that said, “So, Faith.. are you ever going to give me a chance?” I laughed this off not thinking he was serious, but he was very serious. We made plans to get together for the first time in years over 4th of July weekend in Los Angeles. While visiting he told me had plans to move to Los Angeles and start his career. I also told him I had plans to move back but was not quite sure what I wanted to do with my life but I did know I could not let him go. We dated long distance for a few months until the distance got to us, and he asked me to move in with him in Los Angeles. Without a second thought, I packed my life up and moved into his apartment in Los Angeles. This was the best decision I’ve ever made and we’ve been together for 6 years and now live in Orange County.
how they asked
Nick told me that we were going to Los Angeles to meet up with a few of his friends who had just moved to the city. He had me convinced we were just going to happy hour to catch up and see where the night took us. As we were getting closer to the destination of the “meeting spot” I noticed we were no where near any bars, but we were driving around an airport. As Nick parked I said to him, “We’re not going to a bar are we?” he laughed and said, “No, no we’re not, but we’re still going to have fun.” When we walked into the building I noticed we were going on a helicopter tour! This is a bucket list adventure for me so I was totally shocked and super excited. While on the tour our pilot says to us, “Hey, this is my last tour of the day.. want to stop and take some great pictures on top of the Malibu Cliffs?” Of course this was part of “the plan” and we both said yes! As we are standing on top of this beautiful mountain over looking the ocean with the view of Catalina Island in the distance, Nick got down on one knee asked me to marry him.
