Faith and Grant
How We Met
Grant and I met when I was in the 8th grade and he was a freshman. We met through our church youth group, but never got the opportunity to know each other. I always thought he was so handsome, but so did everyone else, and we hardly ever even spoke. I guess it just wasn’t in Gods plan for us to cross paths yet. Years later, after we both graduated, I ran into Grant while I was waitressing. I immediately had the urge to go say hello but, of course, I was too shy. Little did I know he had noticed me too, and thankfully a week or so later he reach out through Facebook and we hit it off right away! He was a gentleman and a laughing riot all in one. We talked non-stop for days. We would talk until we fell asleep and pick the conversation right back up where we left off when we woke. Within a short month we were official, and practically inseparable! We fell for each other fast, and we’ve been head over heels ever since!
how they asked
It was 3:00pm on a Saturday and I had just finished work at my salon. My last client had been my Mom. I was putting my coat on to leave when I heard my Mom behind me say “This is for you”. It was an envelope, and on it said “clue #1”. It was a card from Grant. Inside he had written me a cute little note about how he loved me and how he had a scavenger hunt planned for me for the day. My heart instantly started racing! I was instructed to head home, give my dad a kiss, hug my sister, and to clean myself up. Then I would be given my next clue. When I got home my sister was waiting for me with a GoPro rolling, she was going to be videotaping the whole evening, and making sure I stayed on the right track for my scavenger hunt! The clues all lead to spots that were milestones in our relationship… our first date, first kiss, where we exchanged ‘I love yous’… My last clue told me that I would now have a blindfold on while my sister drove me to our next destination. I was so anxious! She drove around for about an hour to kill time because we apparently were ahead of schedule. It felt like forever, and I was beginning to get sleepy from not being able to see anything with my blindfold on! Finally, I felt the car stop. My sister helped me out of the car. It was quiet, but I could hear soft giggles and whispering. I felt my blindfold loosen.
There he was! My tall, dark and handsome man with a big ol’ grin! He began to walk me over to a wooden arbor he had built himself in front of his family members event lodge.
It had beautiful string lights dangling from it with dozens of pictures of us with both my family and his tacked all over. I was all tears!
He kept asking me how my day was, but I couldn’t think straight, I was so happy, and in awe, and had so much emotion flowing through me already! Finally, he knelt down to one knee, told me how much he loved me and then said it, “Will you marry me?”
It was all I could do to whimper out through my tears a weak “mhmm” with a bunch of nods. I was so happy! We had been talking about marriage for such a long time, and our time was finally here! Little did I know, all our friends and family were peaking through the windows watching, and waiting behind the French doors of the event lodge.
They were all there for us, to celebrate US! Cake, balloons, engagement ring shaped cookies, flowers… it was incredible. I was so overwhelmed with love and couldn’t believe how perfect the whole thing was… or that nobody spoiled the secret! I still feel like the luckiest girl in the world, and I cannot wait to be Grants wife, Mrs. Allison!
