How We Met
Michael and I met at a little Irish Pub In New Jersey called Davey’s. I am a professional singer in NYC and Michael is a finance genius at Alliance Bernstein in Westchester, NY. For extra cash we picked up shifts at a pub in our town and we became instant friends. Michael is a few years younger then me so I never gave him the time of day, saying.. “your too young for me” that didn’t stop him though. I was in a 5 year relationship when Michael and I first met, he would give me advice all the time and always told me I could do better then the guy I was with. I would give him advice on girls he was dating and it was just nice having each other to talk to. When my 5 year relationship fell apart, Michael was there for me. It wasn’t suppose to happen as fast as it did… but we fell HARD for each other. After a few months of dating, we knew we wanted to be together forever and started making plans for the future. But because Michael is younger he needed to finish college and start his career. He was accepted to Coast Carolina University in Myrtle Beach, SC. He told me right away that he would stay in NY just be close to me, but myself moving to NYC at 18 I knew that he needed time to live on his own and experience LIFE. We did long distance for 2 years… I can’t tell you how much I hate Skype and FaceTime!! When he graduated last May he moved back to town and in with me. If we can make it 2 years apart, we can make it through anything.
how they asked
My mom and sisters live in Asheville, NC and for Christmas I decided to go down and join them. I had asked Michael to come with me, but he had just started his new finance job and couldn’t take time off. As sad as I was, I flew down by myself and questioned my entire family asking them if they had planned anything in secret with Michael.. all straight faces… which doesn’t happen in my family so I assumed it wasn’t going to happen. On the second day my sister told me that we would be getting drinks at this beautiful resort called, the Grove Park Inn which is stunning and overlooks the mountains of North Carolina. My sister told me to get dressed up pretty because we would be celebrating my Birthday which was the week before. By the time we got there the sun had started setting and my sister ushered us out onto the outside terrace. She suggested taking pictures by the sunset. At this time the rest of my family joined us, and I didn’t assume anything weird… I just thought they were there to get a drink for my Birthday as well. So at this point we are taking group photos and my sister says, “lets take solo shots, Erin go first” So of course being the photo queen I am, I step up and start posing… all of the sudden my family parts down the middle and out steps MICHAEL!!! I couldn’t believe my eyes. He had flown down to surprise me and planned the whole thing out with my family! LIARS! haha He got down on his knee and I still don’t know what he said because I was crying too hard. I said YES of course :)
