How We Met
David and I met on Halloween weekend in 2011 through a mutual friend. My friend Chelsea suggested we go up to her brother’s college to celebrate the holiday. We went to his lacrosse house and I kept noticing this tall, shaggy haired, blue-eyed, smiley guy. When I got lost out at the bar, he made sure I found my way home and from then on I couldn’t get David out of my head. He sneakily gave himself a few years older more than he actually was, telling me he was a senior when in fact he was a sophomore. For this reason we kept our friendship casual and it wasn’t until the following summer we knew we had to be together – despite the 4 year age difference. Ever since then we’ve been two peas in a pod, loyally supporting and watching out for each other, laughing, and traveling, around the world for the last 6 years.
how they asked
For the past 5 years we have been involved in a mission project that supports a village in Kenya with access to clean water, education, and health care. It’s called the Kalama Project. This past October we were able to visit the village, meet with the people there and see the progress of the school. As a treat to us, our friend Father Dominic arranged for us to go on Safari in Amboseli National Park. At lunchtime our driver took us to the lookout spot in the park where you are able to get out of your vehicle and walk up a hill to see Mount Kilimanjaro and the vast land spotted with herds of elephants. David asked our friend Sarah to take our photo at the top of the hill. We posed for a few shots and as we stepped away, David turned and got on one knee to propose! It was magical to be surrounded by friends and family in a country that is so close to our hearts – a place that resonates in peace, love, and unity. We are so honored to have started our adventure within a journey that means so much to both of us. (The photo sequence of the proposal inserted backwards!)
