how they asked
He proposed while we were on vacation in Ireland. I lived in Cork for two years and was so excited to show him around the country I loved so much. We had a pretty aggressive schedule trying to see everywhere we wanted to go and while it was a little out of the way I wanted to take him to my favorite place in Ireland — the cliffs of Slieve League in County Donegal. After walking up to the top he suggested taking a photo of us up there. I set up my camera on a tripod, set the self-timer and jumped around so I was standing next to him. As the camera is beeping he taps my shoulder and I notice that he is down on one knee holding up a ring and asking me to marry him.
I was SO shocked, I wasn’t expecting this at all! I was so glad that he thought to get a photo and how well it came out!! I was so surprised I didn’t even think to take other photos thereafter of us or the ring! I thought of it two days later when we were at the Cliffs of Moher to get a good photo of the ring.
The ring design played well into everything too. He worked with a local jeweler in Virginia Dominion Jewelers to design the ring. I’d worn a Claddagh ring for years and knowing that he was going to propose in Ireland he decided to use that as his inspiration. He also is into woodworking and made the ring box out of bog wood from Ireland.
