how they asked
5 years ago I met the man of my dreams. Little did I know at the time, 5 years later he would make my dreams come true. Paris was my bucket list trip. It’s the place I always dreamed of seeing in person. A couple of years ago when we would talk about getting engaged, I made the joke of saying I want to get engaged in front of the Eiffel Tower (what girl doesn’t!?) and I also wanted my cat to be there and I also wanted Lana del Rey to sing after I said Yes!
We laughed at my always ridiculousness. Cut to November 1, 2017. We made it to Paris! The city was amazing. And that’s obviously an understatement. We went to dinner. It was a lovely dinner… if you like large lobsters/shrimps/crabs over ice with eyeballs still looking at you as you try to crack open the shell and eat the cold meat.
It was not our cup of tea. And we didn’t exactly know what we had signed up for by choosing this place until the platter was set in front of us. We ate what we could, laughed a lot, and then took an Uber to the nearest pizza place. We ordered a pizza to go and bought €4 bottles of wine to retreat to a nice picnic at the Eiffel Tower. It was magical. And muddy. We didn’t plan very well and had no blanket to sit on. So, we each sat on the plates provided for the pizza. After getting our bottoms settled on plastic bags and paper plates, we looked around and realized we were starring in the real-life Ratatouille.
Rats were running wild in the park. At this point, I was about ready to just call it a night. Zach then asked me to go for a walk with him. He explained the night was still young and nothing could ruin our nights in Paris! I stood up with him, and then realized I was the only one standing. He was on his knee and began to ask me to marry him in front of the glowing Eiffel Tower. As rats could be my witness, I cried like a baby. The man of my dreams, making my crazy dream, a reality. It was the perfectly imperfect beginning of our journey to become Mr. & Mrs. Rogers.
