How We Met
Andrew and I “swiped-right” online back in 2015. Andrew and I were living in Los Angeles at the time, though right as we matched Andrew moved across the country to Minneapolis, MN. Our messages to each other started off fairly short, just asking the basic questions (job, hobbies, etc). We eventually exchanged phone numbers and social media usernames. Time passed, and Andrew had liked a post I had shared. I then texted him saying, “Andrew Smith…now that’s a name I’d like to see pop up on my phone more often!” He took the bait!
From there, we started talking to each other more regularly. Eventually, we decided we wanted to meet in person. My work schedule was more flexible, so I booked a flight out to Minneapolis one weekend to meet him. I remember sitting on the plane thinking, “This is insane, I barely know the guy!” The moment we locked eyes on each other at baggage claim, however, it was love at first sight. We spent the weekend exploring what all Minnesota has to offer.
Our love for each other was instantaneous and deep as if we had known each other before. During this trip, we said “I love you” for the first time and became official boyfriends. When I returned to Los Angeles, Andrew sent me a custom necklace that had the exact coordinates of where we said: “I love you” engraved into it. It was the sweetest gift! We did long distance for about six months before I moved to Minneapolis to be with him. We lived in Minneapolis for about a year and a half before moving back to California.
Andrew and I had been dating for over four years before getting engaged. During that time, our love has taken us across the globe to Paris, Thailand, Hawaii, and many other gorgeous places. We now live in SoCal three blocks from the beach with our cat, Fleetwood.
How They Asked
We were visiting Minneapolis, MN for a backyard wedding I was photographing. Our flight back to California was scheduled for Monday evening, so we spent the morning/afternoon revisiting our favorite spots throughout the city. Because Minneapolis was where we met and started our journey of love together, Andrew wanted to be sure to propose there. While living there, we would always go get a photo booth film strip on special occasions. Our first one was on our first day meeting each other, and we did one on our yearly anniversaries, so it became a bit of a tradition for us.
We are huge donut connoisseurs, and would always go to Glam Doll Donuts to satisfy our donut cravings. They make the best specialty donuts in the Twin Cities! Andrew decided to take me to Glam Doll for breakfast. Little did I know, Andrew had been emailing with them about letting us into the shop for the proposal. The shop is being remodeled, but they cleaned the whole store up and agreed to let us in the back door. I had absolutely no idea! Before grabbing our “mobile order”, Andrew swayed me into the photo booth and popped the question during the photos. Andrew’s custom donuts were waiting for us afterward.
