How We Met: We met several months before our first date, on an airplane. I (Jeff) was flying home to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Jeremiah was the airline attendant on the flight. I was interested in him and wanted to say something, but I didn’t know how, so I gave him my number. We connected online and on the phone, and began talking very often. The next time that Jeremiah’s work took him to Wisconsin, he and I had dinner, and our months of conversation evolved from a romance to a long-distance relationship. Jeremiah would go out of his way to book hours on flights that passed through or ended in Milwaukee. Seven months after we started dating, Jeremiah moved in with me in Milwaukee. We moved to Houston, Texas together in February of 2013 for my new job.
how they asked: Check out the detailed description of how I planned it and asked him on our YouTube video. Explains pre-planning and moment by moment.
National Wedding Contest We Won: Us and 5 other couples in the U.S won the ACLU’s my Big Gay Illegal Wedding Contest. Over 200,000 votes were cast. The contest gave us $5000 to cross the state line (from TX into New Mexico) in a creative way to legally get married (our marriage is not legally recognized by the state of TX). We crossed the state line from El Paso,TX into New Mexico and got married in the air via helicopter ride. We were already in the midst of planning a wedding when we won that contest so we are still planning on having a large wedding in Wisconsin. Aug 2015!
