How We Met
Dennis and I met during my third year of university at Lakehead in Thunder Bay Ontario.
A result of my energetic roommate at the time, Dennis and I quickly began spending time together.
From parties in the freezing north, pub nights and group movie nights at our local theatre, Dennis and I continued a drawn-out courtship.
Despite many opportunities, Dennis finally made a move November 6, 2015, when he personally inquired if I would be joining him and his roommates for a night out.
Long story short, on a cold winters night Dennis and I shared our first kiss at midnight on November 7, 2015.
From there on we began dating, quickly confirming that were were we were committed to starting a relationship. For me, I was a goner two weeks in, when I realized that love a joy described in old romance novels is actually possible; signifying I was head over heels in love.
While it took Dennis a little while longer to reach the same conclusion, on December 14, 2015, he made his intentions and feelings known. After my final exam of the semester and just before I left for the holidays, Dennis pulled me close and said the most genuine words I have ever heard
“I love you”.
Since then, Dennis and I have always been there for each other. From long months apart, the hundreds of kilometers in between followed by unfortunate realizations too wonderful and exciting news, we have always been there for one another; ready to support one’s dreams or to champion the other when they are down.
How They Asked
Since I was a little girl I have always wanted to see cherry blossoms ? in person. Because of this desire, Dennis suggested that we fly to Japan during Sakura season this year, before my work as a teacher picked up.
We spent five amazing days traveling around the country when we finally arrived in Kyoto.
Now, prior to leaving I had my suspicions that he was going to propose – especially because Dennis knows how much I love to travel. But he was playing it so coy I completely put it out of my mind.
I had planned to meet up with a local photographer to get some photos of us that for once were not selfies. I arranged all the logistics and planned the location so being proposed to was the farthest thing from my mind.
Just as our hour was up and our photographer was telling us he had to go Dennis asked for one more picture under a cherry blossom tree.
It was at this moment as I looked at the camera, and began to wonder what this phone would show. It was then that Dennis knelt down on one knee. Turning around and holding my beautiful, I see Dennis on one knee cradling a replica of a Faberge egg. He opened it to relive the most exquisite ring, and with those gliding eyes, Dennis asked me if I would marry him.
Speechless by the sheer beauty of the moment, I was shaking while trying to choke out the words YES!
So underneath the cherry blossoms in Kyoto with spring and love in the air, Dennis asked me to be his forever.
Every the kindness and generosity of this man surprises me. It is with him by my side that I always say that seemingly in the middle of an ordinary life he made a fairytale happen.
