How We Met
I was going through a point in my life where I thought I would never find someone who shared the same values in life as I do. Family is so important to me and I’m very close to mine. TC and I met just briefly through a mutual friend. I didn’t think much about it until I realized that he lived a couple doors down from my sister’s apartment. I had met him before, but we were both too shy to say hello again. After a couple of moments awkward eye-contact coming or going, I finally went up to him and said hello, but I am such a klutz and fell over the curb! We both laughed and have been best friends ever since!
In 2013 we had a child and have since bought a home. Now expecting our second child, TC thought it was time to propose. I have discreetly been dropping him hints about doing it but never in my wildest dreams would I have dreamt of how he actually did propose!
how they asked
On Monday, January 15th, the day started like any other Monday. TC and I have Monday’s off. The weather was perfect, despite it being very chilly. North Carolina weather is so up and down. TC had left little notes for me to find throughout the day. The first note he left on the kitchen counter with my morning cup of coffee. It read, “I love you, see you soon.”
TC and our son Colton left to go hang out at a friend’s house for a few hours. I definitely knew something was up! This was not his handwriting! TC gave me no explanation and was avoiding all of my texts. I was starting to get upset because if something was about to happen, I had to be ready. My sister Ashley and my mother showed up at my house around noon. I immediately started asking them questions about their random visit and how TC left a peculiar note that morning. They weren’t saying anything! I went to get the laundry out of the dryer as Ashley sneaked into my bedroom to leave a box and note from TC. When I went to drop the laundry on the bed I spotted the box, and asked, “what is this?” All Ashley could say was “I don’t know,” and shrugged her shoulders. In the box were a long-sleeve, pink-rose, sequin dress and a note that read “you will look amazing in this.”
My eyes went wide and again asked, “what is this?” Ashley replied, “I’m guessing we should do your hair and makeup!” At least I knew I was going to be ready for whatever was about to happen. After getting ready, uncertain as I was, I got in the car with mom and Ashley. On the corner of the passenger seat was another note saying, “When I’m with you, I feel like I’m on top of the world. Meet me there.”
This completely confused me about TC’s whereabouts. Ashley drove us towards Pilot Mountain. As we pulled off the highway, I figured that was where TC was. When we all arrived at the top of the mountain, we pulled into the first parking place available.
My son, Colton, was standing there alone and overly excited to see me. After handing me a bouquet of flowers he handed me the fourth and final note from TC, “Daddy is waiting for you, follow me.” Colton (ever so cute – gosh I just adore him!) grabbed my hand and walked to the gate that leads out to the cliff sides of Pilot Mountain.
TC was standing out on a ledge, under a tree, in a black suit and black bow tie, smiling as big as he could. He grabbed my hand and as soon as I reached him, he went down to one knee.
With a few tears, TC asked me! The love of my life asked me to marry him and I said “YES!” I still can’t believe it! I had some speculation about the proposal from the first note but never expected TC to set all of this up!
But, when your sister’s best friend is a professional wedding photographer, things get very creative! I can’t wait to spend forever with him!
