Emily and Seth
How We Met
I met Seth when I was 15 years old. I was starting at a brand new high school in 10th grade, and I walked into our homeroom on the first day of school, and sat down right next to him. Our last names begin with “B” and “C” so we were assigned next to each other for every single class. I didn’t like him at all at first – he copied down my number while I was telling someone else and prank texted me, trying to get my attention. I thought he was annoying… but then as time went on, and we texted more and more, I started to like him a little bit. His sense of humor was the biggest part about him – always making jokes and making me laugh.
It brought so much joy into my life. We really started to hit it off and by the spring of 10th grade, he told me he liked me, and we started dating from that point forward! We fell in love over the many years we were together. We experienced so many milestones in life together. Not only did we grow up together and experience all of our rough stages together, but we went to all of our high school dances and big events together, graduated high school together, attended the same college together, and will graduate from the same college together! We dated for 4 1/2 perfect, fun, and life-changing years, until Seth completely shocked me by getting on one knee and asking me to spend not just another 4 1/2 years, but a lifetime together. I said YES, and we could not be more excited!
how they asked
Seth and I are HUGE coffee/tea fans- a big part of our relationship involves coffee. We have gone on millions of coffee/tea dates (depending on what we feel like), and its always been a great way for us to unwind and talk about our day. So when Seth suggested that we bring a kettle/some tea up to Pretty Place in Asheville, NC, that was not out of the ordinary to me. Pretty Place is a gorgeous chapel in NC that overlooks the Blue Ridge Mountains- it is absolutely stunning! We spent a full day in Asheville shopping, eating brunch, driving the Blue Ridge parkway, and just hanging out like we always do.
Seth wanted to stop by Pretty Place at sunset, (little did I know…). When we got there, the sun was just beginning to set over the mountains and the sky was turning pink. Seth started heating up the hot water & getting the tea ready… He pulled out a mug for me that looked like it was just a regular black mug at first glance. However, when he poured the hot tea into my mug, the color changed from black to white, and revealed “Em, will you marry me?” printed on the side.
I was shocked, and immediately the tears came! Seth got down on one knee and pulled out the most incredible ring I have ever seen and asked me to be his wife.
We were both sobbing, and of course I said YES!
After years and years of dating, it seems so surreal to finally be able to say we’re getting MARRIED!
